road trip :: days 3 & 4

:: sea of grass :: Theodore Roosevelt National Park::

::KOA near Little Big Horn::

Making our way to Cody Wyoming from Theodore Roosevelt National Park, we stopped to spend the night near Little Big Horn.  That afternoon we visited the place of Custer's last stand and the Indian's (primarily Lakota and Cheyenne) last victory against the settlers who were bringing an end to the Indian's independent and nomadic way of life. The history was beyond the kids - we have listened to the whole Little House on the Prairie series but it is hard to put the Ingalls family's presence on the plains after the Civil War in context. I am hoping in time, one or more of the kids will take an interest in this part of our history.
