off island

We spent some time on St. John this week. Its a totally different island than St. Thomas making it a great getaway. The main reason for this is that most of the island is National Park giving it a tropical jungle feel whereas St. Thomas is pretty well developed and has very little in the way of hiking. We spent alot of time at the resort, swimming in the pool but also got out to hike on the Leinester Beach Trail. Its a flat, shady one mile out to a sweet snorkeling beach. The trail is well maintained and suprisingly busy. The kids made it all the way and back without a hitch which was a relief since its been a long time since we've been able to get that distance of walking in with them. It was a regular event in Seattle but St. Thomas's terrain doesn't allow for longer walks. I know you are looking closely at the photo below...the BIG belly there....yep, baby #4 due to arrive in September and the excuse reason why I haven't been doing much of anything productive or documentary the past few months.
The weather as also been beautifully cool this winter and spring. Between 70-80 each day with lower humidity. A walk like this midsummer (if we dared try) would have had us all panting for water.
