First Day

Look who is so excited. He was so agitated by the fact he had to wait outside until the school doors opened. "I definitely don't want to stand here waiting"....last night he said "I am going to learn so much. I am so excited!" Of course we are excited for him but I have to say I had tears in my eyes walking into that classroom. My inner monologue was saying "Don't look at the other moms, it's his moment not yours...don't cry now, don't get him upset..." It is a step towards independence for him and for us. Some might say it's too soon, some might say don't put him into the "machine" that school in USA can be these days. But this school, this place, feels right for him and to us right now. The homily at the school blessing this morning was about the garden that our school is; about the seeds of love, stewardship, hospitality, hope and faith, courage, commitment....that are being planted by the kids, teachers, parents and community. I was once again reminded that the good fruits of our labor always start as seeds and that growth takes time, patience, commitment and hope; as well as a little help from the sun and water.
